Egyptian Minister of Health Hala Zayed announced that auditory screening has been conducted for 1,151,284 newborn children nationwide. This comes as part of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s initiative, which was launched in September last year, for early detection and treatment of hearing loss and impairment. A total of 1,901 non-Egyptian children residing in Egypt were also examined as part of the initiative in accordance with the directives of President Sisi, said Advisor to Minister of Health Khaled Mogahed.
The initiative was launched at 1,364 health units and offices across all governorates, to conduct auditory screening tests for children since birth and until the age of 28 days, added Mogahed. He further noted that 73,739 children were transferred for re-examination for a second time through a confirmation test, a week after the first examination was conducted. Other children were sent to treatment, stethoscope installation or cochlear implant operation according to their conditions.
